Career Overview

Early Education Teaching is concerned with methods to teach very young lively and fast growing kids below the age of 8 years.

Responsibilities of the teachers basically comprise teaching the basic alphabets and improving social skill of their students. Teachers should get down to the level of the tiny tots, play with them, dance, sing and relate to their problems in order to train them for the challenges ahead.

It is a demanding job. A go-getter and active persons with the following traits can take up this challenging task of moulding young minds to become better individuals.

The Basic qualification to enter this field is a Bachelor’s degree.

Students can also take up Bachelor's degree in Education (B.Ed.) or a Master degree (M.Ed.) from any university.

Though there are no special graduation Early Education

Teaching courses, some universities provide a Masters degree in Early Education.

Montessori method of education is a common qualification that reputed pre-schools and pre-primary schools ask for during interviews. Other option would be to take up a Nursery Teacher’s training provided by Government and private colleges across India.

Eminent Role models in this profession:

Anne Sullivan was the teacher of Helen Keller. Though partially blind herself, she inspired the blind and deaf Helen Keller to come out of her shell and to become a great political activist and author. Helen Killer scalled great heights in her life and even received the highest honour - US Presential Medal for freedom.

Maria Montessori’s is synonyms with Early Education training. Her influencial, innovating and path breaking ideas on education have laid the foundation for many educational policies and curriculum for young children all over the world. According to Mario Montessori, children learn by themselves. The teacher responsibility lies in providing the right environment for the kids learn in their own way. “The Montessori Method” as it is called was first adopted in Italy and has been most accepted method for teaching young kids across the world.

William Holmes McGuffey was another elementary teacher who developed practical educational books called Eclectic Readers that has been adopted by many reputed educational organsations worldwide. These books teach alphabets, phonics , basic sentences and are helpful for children from the first reader to the fourth.

3. Education Track

A minimum qualification of Class 12 is required to enter this field.

3.1 Undergraduate Entry Point

3.2 Post Graduate Entry Point

3.2.1 Eligibility Criteria

Candidates possessing a bachelor’s degree in Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) with an aggregate of 55% are eligible for a Masters degree in Education (M.Ed.). Candidates should also posses a two years working experience as a teacher in an education institution.

Candidates can also take up M.Sc. (Master of Science in Early Education degree) offered by selct Universities.

Early Childhood Education certificates(ECE) and diploma are also offered by private organizations like Azim Premji Universitiy, Vidhyanidhi Educational Society,Asian college of Teachers and many others.

There are also various online courses available to upgrade skills for example Online course on child psychology and on child nutrition courses to name a few.

There are two models of Early Education Teaching that are much sought by educational institutions imparting Early Education.

4.1 Montessori method of Training

Montessori Method of training was developed by Mario Montessori, wherein the teachers are responsible for providing an environment for tiny tots to themselves gain knowledge. Courses can be taken in Regular, online and postal streams.

Advance diploma in pre-primary and primary teachers training – Course Duration 1year.

Diploma in Monessor (Pre-primary) Teacers training -

Course Duration 6 months

Certificate course in Montesori Teachers Training -

4.2 Diploma course - Nursery Teacher Training(NTT)

Nursery Teacher Training is provided by various Government and private Institutions. The basic qualification is 10 + 2. Merit, marks in 10 + 2 and entrance exams are the factors determing eligibility to this course.
